I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hilton’s Home 2 Suites while in Austin Texas. The staff was friendly and professional, the suite was comfortable and clean.
I was in the area for business and I always like to learn more about the Extended Stay Hotel business because they are often in competition with Furnished Apartment providers like those found on AscensionCorporateRentals.com.
At the Home 2 Suites where i stayed, the Kitchen lacked a cooking surface by design. This extended Stay
Hotel has at least one plug in range top for loan, and all you do is request it and wait for it to be delivered to your room. Though I understand the economic efficiency of not installing a stove top nor oven, I found that I was dissuaded from cooking. I mostly ate at the nearby restaurants but was able to take leftovers to my suite. I was able to use the plates and microwave to re-heat, which did bring down my meal cost somewhat during the trip. I also understand that reduced in-room cooking reduces wear and tear and cleaning costs. However, we have to realize how and when these cost reductions are being passed on to guests.
Don’t misunderstand me. I did find the Suite to be preferable to a regular hotel room for any extended length of stay. However when compared to a fully furnished home or apartment, extended stay hotels, even the nice ones, seem to fall short of the “home” feel.
The daily light touch cleaning and weekly cleaning are appreciated and are smart maintenance. That level of service is not without cost and not everyone wants the expense.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay and I will return again to the Hilton Home 2 Suites in Austin.
