Come 4th on the 3rd

Donaldsonville is celebrating Independence Day early with its Come 4th on the 3rd celebration in Crescent park.

The event starts at 2 p.m. Monday with a singing competition followed by performances by Michael Foster Project from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Hello McFly from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Artemis from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A fireworks display over the Mississippi River closes the event.

Patriotic performance

In celebration of James Linden Hogg Day in Ascension Parish, the teen singer, songwriter and actor will perform an American patriotic concert at 10 a.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church in Gonzales. Sunday also is Hogg’s birthday.

There is no charge to attend. A free barbecue dinner will follow the performance.

Library fun

Ascension Parish Library’s summer reading program offers a variety of events for youths of all ages.

FOURTH OF JULY CRAFT: Make a red, white and blue turtle ornament: 2 p.m. Monday, Donaldsonville. For all ages.

HUFF AND PUFF SCIENCE: Explore science concepts through the story of the Three Little Pigs: 9 a.m. Monday, Galvez and 9 a.m. July 7, Dutchtown. For all ages.

PICTURE BINGO: Enjoy beach-themed picture bingo, with everyone guaranteed to win a prize; 9:30 a.m. Monday, Gonzales, and 9:30 a.m. July 7, Donaldsonville. For children entering prekindergarten through first grade.

ALL AGES PICTURE BINGO: Everyone is guaranteed at least one prize; 6:30 p.m. Monday, Gonzales.

EMOJI PILLOWS: Use felt and fabric glue to make an emoji pillow; 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dutchtown. For teens entering grades six through 12.

FRIDA KAHLO’S BIRTHDAY: Celebrate the Mexican artist by playing lotería and making floral headbands; 4 p.m. July 6, Donaldsonville. For teens entering grades six through 12.
